Baby Leo Arrives
It is amazing how baby portraits can make weak knees for everyone. We had met Gerson and Kathy at a wedding. It was her cousin getting married in Orlando. Cathy was about 7 months pregnant and Gerson her husband and I were talking about post pregnancy photos for the family. That is how it all began. Over the years we had about six photo sessions documenting the family heirloom when they get older and look back in time. Archived 11/2014
Summarize the baby photography tips
While the provided Artisan Photographics page showcases their work with baby photography, it does offer specific photography tips. However, general best practices for capturing beautiful baby photos are readily available and can be summarized as follows:
Optimal Timing and Environment: Schedule sessions during the baby's happiest and sleepiest times (often after feeding and naps) and ensure a warm, quiet, and comfortable environment for the baby's well-being.
Prioritize Safety and Comfort: Always have a spotter present when positioning the baby, especially for more elaborate poses, and ensure all props and surfaces are secure and comfortable. Never force a pose if the baby shows signs of discomfort.
Leverage Natural Light: Utilize soft, natural light sources like windows and diffuse harsh light with sheer curtains or reflectors. Avoid direct flash or harsh overhead lighting that can create unflattering shadows.
Focus on Details and Angles: Get down to the baby's eye level for intimate shots and capture close-ups of tiny features like fingers, toes, and eyelashes. Experiment with different angles to add depth and interest to your compositions.
Keep it Simple and Natural: Focus on the baby as the main subject and avoid excessive props or overly complicated outfits that can distract from their natural beauty. Simple backdrops and neutral colors are often most effective.
Embrace Patience and Flexibility: Be prepared for unpredictable moments and allow ample time for feeding, comforting, and breaks. Let the baby guide the session and be ready to adapt your plan accordingly.
Involve Family and Capture Milestones: Include parents and siblings in some shots to document the family bond and remember to capture important milestones as the baby grows.
